This project was completed for a graduate level instructional technology course where I developed an instructional training video for a technology tool. I chose the immersive learning tool, ThingLink, for its widespread uses and benefits across all sectors of work and education. An analysis of many current ThingLink trainings found primarily helpful, yet short, videos explaining the features of the tool. There was a need for longer instruction that went through an entire creation process. My product provides the slower, step-by-step instruction plus case studies that would best benefit some learners.
Experience the Project
Instructional Design
Even though I had used this tool previously, I made sure to research what I had not utilized. I familiarized myself with every feature of ThingLink and located a variety of case studies to utilize in the instruction. I gathered supplemental materials and developed an outline for the training video. Once finalized, I designed the script with visuals and effects.
To further engage the learners, the instruction was relevant to many different types of people and jobs with several useful takeaways provided as well as motivation to practice creating right away.
eLearning Development
I prepared a scenario and sample ThingLink that I would work through while doing screen recording for the video. After recording this content, I compiled the recordings with other audio, video, visuals, and effects in Camtasia. Graphics and visuals not from ThingLink came from Camtasia.
Project Results & Takeaways
This instructional video provides a detailed training for learners that gives the time and attention many learners need with relevant content they can immediately use on the job. Relevancy and practicality are key.
Next steps with this video training would be to improve the audio/narration with the better audio equipment I now have.
This product shows my ability to manage and create lengthier instructional videos for a wide audience within many different sectors. It also shows my growth in the Camtasia software. I created this product in my early days of learning Camtasia and it demonstrates my ability to quickly adapt to a new technology tool.
